A natural material

Zinc is naturally resistant to corrosion, extremely durable and does not require costly maintenance. In addition, the flexibility, malleability and versatility of zinc makes it the material of choice for imaginative building projects from individual homes to commercial developments, public buildings and private projects.

A top performing alloy

VMZINC is a rolled zinc alloyed with copper and titanium added to produce a material with optimum mechanical and physical characteristics for building applications, particularly with regard to mechanical resistance and creep resistance.

VMZINC is composed of very high quality zinc Z1 (99,995% pure zinc), as defined by the EN 1179 standard, to which titanium and copper are added in order to obtain rolled zinc according to the European standard EN 988.

This standard imposes very stringent specifications for the composition of rolled zinc and its physical, mechanical and dimensional characteristics, which make it an international reference.

The VMZINC brand complies with all the specifications of the EN 988 standard. It offers an even higher level of quality than EN 988 certification.


The marking that makes the difference

All rolled VMZINC products are ink-marked. The marking indicates the VMZINC trademark and logo, the composition of the metal, to “EN 988,” the name of the production plant, the thickness of the material, and the manufacturing code.

It guarantees the high level of production and traceability of VMZINC products.

VMZ manufacturing plants are also certified ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001. VMZINC also carries a BRE Global approved environmental profile.


Qualities

Resistance

VMZINC provides buildings with sustainable (link to 2.3) envelope solutions and can be used in all climates. VMZINC roofing (link to 4 roof) applications can be used on roof slopes as low as 3° (5%). The roofing and facade systems provide good resistance to wind uplift and is not susceptible to UV deterioration.

Rain fall quantity and wind load pressure should be taken into account together as both are main constraints for roof design.


Rain constraints

The zinc is the weather proof layer that protects the building. Therefore, zinc panels must be jointed using the correct detail (see details). RWS must be correctly sized for the roof in question.
 

Wind load for building applications

It is the responsibility of the design team/architect to determine loads for the building resulting from wind action in accordance with the applicable national standards.

This type of standard defines:

  • reference speeds or pressures to be taken into consideration according to the geographical distribution of winds in the area,
  • formula and methods required for the engineer to calculate wind pressure on the building according to its geometry, as well as the influence of the surrounding topography on the variation of wind speeds.

Malleability

Architects have unlimited creativity which can be perfectly expressed with VMZINC. The material can therefore adopt any shape. It can be bent to fit curves with low radii and form complex shapes which are difficult to create with other materials.
